Today's mini review is for Missha's Super Aqua Cell Renew Snail Sleeping Mask.
The main ingredients include Snail Secretion Filtrate, Dimethicone, Glycerin, Alcohol, Baobob Seed Oil, Arbutin, Bis-PEG-18 Methyl Ether Dimethyl Silane, PEG-11 Methyl Ester Dimethicone, Sea Water, Portulaca Oleracea Extract.
I am still of the opinion that more studies should be made on the effects of snail secretion filtrate, so let's leave it for now. Dimethicone is an occlusive which keeps the moisture and other ingredients close to the skin by retarding evaporation. Glycerin is a humectant, an ingredient which attracts water from dermis to the epidermis. Alcohol I assume here is some sort of solvent which thankfully did not contribute to my skin's dryness. Arbutin is a skin lightener which may reduce pigmentation. Baobob Seed Oil is purported to have a rich amount of antioxidants, amino acid and vitamins, although I am unable to find studies which back the claims this ingredient is marketed with. The next two ingredients with long "scary sounding" names are synthetic skin conditioning agents (safe, according to Paula Begoun). The Common Purslane extract is also a good ingredient to have for its anti-inflammatory and analgesic properties.
Much thinner and less sticky when compare to Vaseline. Easy to spread as well. |
Personally, frugal me would not purchase a full size as I've used Vaseline as a sleeping mask with great success. However, those who are into the Korean skin care regimen may want to give this sleeping mask a shot: it can provide additional lightening effect and yet-to-be-proven anti-aging benefits, in addition to the obvious moisturizing effect.
So if you've got money, this is worth a shot!
