Review: Bioré UV Bright Face Milk

For those who have been following the blog, you may already know that I am a regular sunscreen user. Much as I hate their pore strips, I adore Bioré sunscreens. They're cheap, not greasy, and wearable.

To add to my Bioré sunscreen review collection, and also because I am about to run out of this product, I will be reviewing Bioré's UV Bright Face Milk (SPF 50, PA+++). It looks very much like the Perfect Face Milk which I've already reviewed, but will the Bright Face version live up to the performance of its white-bottled cousin?

Availability and Price: Similar to other Biore sunscreens I've purchased, this can only be bought from online sellers. I got mine from sulit.com.ph for 600 php, excluding an additional 100 php for courier service. About a month ago, I checked if this sunscreen is available from Sulit and it was unavailable. But I just checked a while ago, and it's available for 800 pesos. To be honest, issues of supply and/or importation make Biore sunscreens more expensive than they should be (around 500 pesos). It is also quite hard to find here in the Philippines.

It is available from sasa.com right now for 11 USD, but if you're from the Philippines, I wish you good luck for the "door-to-door" delivery of your product (because Customs).

Packaging: All labels except for the front of the bottle are in Japanese. The bottle is similar to the Perfect Face version, except for the color. Not much to say, but the bottle is quite compact and fits in my bag nicely.

Texture and Scent: I did not notice if the sunscreen had any scent to it, but if it did, it is likely very weak. The scent is milky, viscous enough for easy application but thick enough to not cause too much mess. The product feels smooth upon application and is easy to apply. By the way, the texture and scent (or lack of it) is quite similar to the Perfect Face version.

Ingredients (from cosdna.com): UV filters used are Zinc Oxide, Ethyhexyl Methoxycinnamate, and Titanium Dioxide, which by the way, is the reason for the brightening effect/slight white cast. This for me is the biggest deviation from the Perfect Face milk version.

This screen also has alcohol, which may be drying for those with already dry skin. But for those with oily skin, this product may work very well as this component does help with the matte finish (along with talc).

Finish: Slightly oily upon application, but will dry to a matte finish in no more than a minute. Leaves a slight, lingering white cast though, which may not work for darker skin tones. The smooth, matte finish is similar to that of Perfect Face.

Rating: This sunscreen has great texture and finish. It may be hard to find in the Philippines, but even with the exorbitant prices online sellers set for Biore screens, the performance is totally worth it. Although inferior to the Perfect Face version because of the slight white cast (which is tolerable for fair skin), it is still a very good sunscreen and is second only to the Perfect Face version. At least for now...

Overall: 4.3/5

  1. Hey, do you live somewhere near makati? There's a mini-grocery here TPE marketplace (a japanese or taiwanese store) that sells biore sunscreen ranging from 250php to 400+. You might want to check it out.
